THE JAPANESE BEAUTYOF LIGHT AND SHADOW

The Japanese have traditionally sought beauty by embracing natural light and its seasonal changes within the architecture.

From the sunlight and the dim glow of the moon emerge a myriad of different shades of darkness, creating spaces of unparalleled beauty through the interplay of light and shadows.

S600 LINE

In today’s content-rich society, everyone needs a space for a moment of self-reflection. INAX transforms bathrooms from mere functional necessities for personal hygiene to comfortable spaces that transform everyday life, refreshing and re-energizing people in body and mind.

光

LIGHT

The “bathroom of light” refreshes one’s mind as though the brightness washes away one’s troubles. The light falling on tiles and products forms a gradation of shadows with a rhythmical effect, filling the entire space with delicate illumination while emphasizing the brilliance of the sun. Bathrooms are no longer spaces of limited importance where people spend minimum time. They are taking center stage, offering cleanliness and comfort, transforming everyday life.

影

SHADOW

The “bathroom of shadows” is dark but in a pleasant way. With a beautiful pale light generated by combining natural light and illumination, it is full of atmospheric shades formed by carefully designed and positioned tiles and products. Shutting out the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the serenity of the overall space brings about a deep level of relaxation suited for the day’s end, to nurture the vitality for tomorrow.

S400 LINE

Japanese architectural practices have created spaces of unparalleled beauty through the masterful use of the light and shadows. Mystical rays of light penetrate through small windows, forming different shades and shadows on the floor, walls, and products. This creates a sense of serenity, of utter relaxation -an unembellished yet thoroughly elegant space. Only by carefully designing the use of light can the combination of architecture and products, from tiles to toilets, create such an atmosphere. The S400 LINE by INAX introduces this feature to your bathroom space allowing you to recharge and spend a moment of reflection.

02INAX ANDFRANK LLOYD WRIGHT

Scratch-face and terracotta tiles, produced for the second main building of the Imperial Hotel designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, became the foundation for the birth of INAX.

In those days, such tile manufacturing was still rare. INAX’s founder Chozaburo Ina and his father served as technical advisors for the production, which became the starting point for INAX’s pursuit of beauty and craftsmanship.

日本タイルの世界

JAPANESETILE WORLD

PHILOSOPHY

To stand in awe of, and with affection for, Mother Nature. Embedded in the Japanese DNA is the desire to seek out the spirit of life across infinite phases in nature—beyond plants and flowers, at times among inorganic sheer rock and rippling water. Sensibility and aesthetic awareness cultivated in this nation of four seasons come alive through expressions molded from clay and fire: Welcome to Japanese Tile World by INAX. Here, the elements of era and trends are superseded by timeless spatial design that breathes a new spirit. Here, the deepest mental state fills all voids.

    KANOKO

    KANOKO × KANOKOSHIBORI

One form of shibori, the Japanese manual resist-dyeing technique, is Kanokoshibori, which involves binding minuscule portions of fabric with a thread before dyeing. When untied, the bound parts remain white, resembling the pattern of a fawn’s back, from which the name was derived. KANOKO features a gentle Japanese design using this artisan technique as a motif.

    YOHKAN

    YOHEN BORDER × YOHKAN

The Japanese have traditionally expressed the wonders of nature by portraying the changes of the four seasons in sweets such as Yohkan, a classic thick jellied confection made from beans. Like the gradation of colors in the scenery, YOHEN BORDER offers a spectrum of subtle color differences across every single piece.
